Women Who Fight

An ongoing photographic exploration of women's boxing, aspiration, and resilience in Ghana.

Women Who Fight is a photodocumentary project and essay that explores the lives of women in Ghana's boxing community, tracing the journey from the sport's earliest female pioneers to a new generation of fighters in Accra. Through photography, interviews, and historical research, the project examines how women have made out a space for themselves within one of Ghana's most celebrated yet male-dominated sports. Despite decades separating the first generation from today's athletes, many of the challenges remain unchanged. Limited institutional support, inadequate funding, lack of visibility, and persistent gender barriers continue to shape the experiences of women in boxing. By documenting both the history and present realities of the sport, Women Who Fight reveals the resilience, ambition, and determination of the women who have fought not only in the ring but also for recognition, opportunity, and a place within Ghana's boxing legacy.
